Tropical fruit kebabs with silky chocolate sauce

Cupid Skewers - Pierce the heart of the one you love!

Preparation Time: 10 minutes Cooking Time: 5 minutes
Serves: 2 (of course)

Aphrodisiac foods are the name of the game on St. Valentine’s night – it is just a matter of making a recipe that is not too arduous and complicated as who wants to be too tired to enjoy the benefit?!! I hope that you will be turned on by this dessert that is oozing with passion and should present no problems in delighting your partner.

The various tropical fruits that I have used include Papaya, paw paw passion fruit, apricots, figs, strawberries, blackberries and banana – in fact any combination of these is perfect. Choose fruits that are firm so that they grip well to the skewer and go for a good mix of colour and texture.

While I was shopping for this recipe, I found some baby bananas – Bananito bananas, which come from Ecuador. They are particulary sweet and delicate for this recipe. Bananas have a good source of potassium and are known for their erotic nature.

This recipe is also great as part of a summer dinner party; just increase the quantities of fruit and sauce accordingly.

Ingredients

  • 1 paw paw/ papaya – cut into large cubes
  • 4 strawberries – stalks removed
  • 2 apricots – cut in half and stone removed
  • 2 passion fruit – cut in half
  • 1 banana or 2 baby bananito bananas – sliced in large rounds

For the silky hot chocolate sauce

  • 1 cup plain bittersweet good quality chocolate
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

(The sauce will last as long as the sell by date on the double cream!)

Method

1) Carefully melt the chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of simmering water. Heat the cream separately either in a saucepan or in the microwave.
2) Combine the melted chocolate with the hot cream. Stir in the vanilla extract and keep warm in the saucepan until ready to use.
3) Pierce the fruit along a wooden skewer in co-ordinating colours and variety. Make as many as desired. Any excess sauce can be reheated gently or frozen.

To serve the stylish Way

Dip the tropical fruit kebabs in to the silky warm chocolate sauce and share with the one you love!
