about: denise phillips
I am a professional chef, who trained with renowned restaurateur Prue Leith before setting up a successful catering business offering distinctive food, at affordable prices but with exceptional style and visual look. My quest to improve the quality of Jewish cooking led to a number of highly successful ‘hands-on’ cookery demonstrations all over the country and a commission to write four different books to date that have established me as the leading name in modern Jewish cooking with style.
My books include:
In addition, I write a food column every week in the Jewish News amd regularly for the Jewish Chronicle, Jewish Recorder, Jewish Vegetarian Society as well as for a number of overseas news papers : the Jewish Press in New York, the Jewish Advocate in Boston and from Pesach 09, the Canadian Jewish News.
Plus of course there is this site to maintain as well as the Jewish Cookery Internet Recipe Collection, offering you access to over 500 tried and tested recipes from your PC or Smartphone/iPhone. Join now.
My TV appearances include ITV, Channel 5, and UK Food where my modern approach to designer recipes that are strictly kosher has won much acclaim. With both Shalom FM and JCom radio I had my own radio show, plus I have appeared on BBC Radio London, Radio 4, LBC with Bill Buckley (click into ‘in the media on this website) and numerous regional shows.
As well as my regular cookery classes, I also frequently run cookery demonstrations for charities such as the Jewish Blind & Disabled, WIZO and Jewish Care. The aim is to share my passion for modern Jewish cookery whilst raising money for a good cause. Finally, I am now working with a number of the major kosher food brands developing new food ideas and recipes for their packs and websites. My practical approach ……enhanced.
So what does Denise really like and dislike ?
Italian food is definitely a weakness especially risotto and traditional thick vegetable soup – La Ribillata - for which I have a very special recipe of my own.
I love sea bass with mash potato and like all true foodies, fine wine and chocolate is definitely a must! And of course all my own recipes as I cannot cook anything I don’t like to eat!
Taramasalata, steak and the smell of kippers certainly never tempt me. Cooked breakfast and any dessert covered with cream will never twist my arm.
Ketchup is certainly on the 'no no' list ', although my son has to have it for every meal !
